I MADE MY SISTER’S WEDDING DRESS

10 sketches, 3 different designs, and 1 pregnancy.

Thousands of stitches, hundreds of applications, and hidden messages in the dress…

Meeting with my sister

How, where and when the wedding is determined how the wedding outfit will look like.
Those are roughly the questions I asked, when i started to made the dress.
Her ideal wedding dress should be a homage to her roots. Southamerican glamorous modern boho bride.
You can find the folder with the inspirations on Pinterest.
The important for me is that my sister curves are perfectly staged.

I had already played through a few drafts in my mind.

We had thought of a sleeveless Onepiece in white silk or cotton in high quality. with colored, pointed applications on the waist. A lace tulle train at the end with a colored metallic look lace application. It should look like scattered rose petals.
The location is perfect for a boho bride, in a beautiful rose garden on a sunny summer day in June.
After all the details have been clarified, I got so far about furnishing the bust with its masses. The pattern was drawn and cut out and the moullour (sample dress) was sewn.
A few days after the first fitting, my sister admitted she was pregnant.
Sooo…..I had to start all over again!! – “After“ mourning ”the first design, I get back to work.

We started from scratch again.
The search for inspiration.

The search began in my favorite fabric shop in Weisbrod.
I took my sister and mother with me for just for some inspiration. We found a beautiful lace fabric with sewn appliqués, made in Spain.
We bought it without having a concept.
A small bad buy.
A few days later, I tried everything. I pegged off the lace fabric on the tailor’s doll. But it looked way too ordinary and way too innocent.
The innocent look isn’t really appropriate for a pregnant bride who is going to be a mother for the second time.
I did some research on Pinterest looking for actresses with the same curves and skin tone as my sister’s. E.g. Sofia Vergara and Salma Hayek.
It helped me to have new ideas and a new way to oppen up to change the look.

The search on Etsy began.

Hundreds of fabrics from cheaper to the highest quality fabrics in the world on one platform. I needed a view hours to find what i was looking for.
I found a gorgeous glitter tulle that screams total glamor boho bride. I immediately ordered a couple of fabric samples in different colors. The shopowner was super friendly and sent me the samples right away.
When I received the package, I immediately knew that I had found the perfect fabric.
high quality and it felt perfect and hardly lost any glitter when crumpled. !
JUST PERFECT!

I was in a tailor-made heaven.

My sister immediately accepted. She loved the material right away.

In the shopping cart, I also added a few applications from the same shop.
I pressed the cash register and couldn’t wait. I also found the fish bones for the corsage on Etsy but i needed to buy them from a american shop but it was as fast like the german post so i didnt had any problems.
On a other online shop:”stoff und so”, i bought the inner lining.
I waited impatiently for the fabrics and accessories. Fortunately, the fishbone and the inner lining came first and so I was finally able to get started.
everything finds its way.
I stabbed my finger a thousand times trying not to bleed on the dress.
The third fitting: “that’s where the problems started”
I thought that a pregnant woman would gain weight and not lose weight. She loost on breasts, stomach, and hips.
My sister lost inches!!!
So I had to make the corset tighter over and over again, but secretly I left some extra space.
Since I’ve never heard of a pregnant woman that lost weight. I did not understand the world anymore.
she lost even more weight over the weeks.
The corsage will “fix” everything. I was telling that myself that in a panic.
A further two weeks before the wedding I was almost done. At the last official fitting, everything fitted perfect.
I wanted to scream. So happy was I.

The rule for my sister: do not lose and gain weight, she should stay as she is.

On the day of the wedding, I noticed that the breasts had become massive larger. And it was just 2 days after the last fitting.
And almost panicked. With trembling hands, I dressed her and tied the corsage. Everything was fine. Her breasts swelled slightly, it went perfectly with the concept.

Seeing my sister dressed in her wedding dress. I sewed together for weeks was an unforgettable moment.

the hidden messages

In couture, there are traditions to wish the bride eternal happiness.
In the inner lining, I embroidered a secret message and the names of my sister and her husband. One or two hairs of mine I hid in it too. That it should bring a husband to me in the future. Let’s see if it works. 🙂
I will not tell you what the Secret Message is. The luck should stay forever.
The whole dress consists of little messages. Thus, the dress is a romantic romance in itself. And full of traditional couture.

Hidden meanings of the applications:

Butterflies:
Change and transformation. the soul. Happiness and luck. Grace and elegance.
Pearls:
Protection and helps to accept love for yourself and others.
Roses: love and aphrodisiac
